GAME SUMMARY:

1861 is a two-player game of the American Civil war. The objective of the game is to take your opponent’s capitol, Washington D.C. or Richmond Va.

It is the spring of 1861 and 11 states have broken away from the Union to create the Confederate states of America.  Each side is in command of those forces present at the outset of the war.

The North has more men, twice the navy and starts with almost twice as much money as the South.

This game is designed for historical accuracy. The South goes first by taking Fort Sumnter. The South can also take over states such as Kentucky, Missouri, or even Kansas in the first turn. This allows the South to gain income on the first turn.

The "Southern advantage" is a set of rules that gives the South extra benefits to help against the North’s overwhelming economic advantages, such as British involvement for passage through Canada and extra money on each turn. There is the Indian territory giving the south one extra man per turn. General Lee is the best piece on the board.

This game is equal for both sides and it does not matter which side you choose to play, you are the commanding general. But even when you think that you can not lose remember it is all in the dice.

If you enjoy strategic board games, you will find this to be one of the best you have ever played!
